Marcus by Goldman Sachs

Financial Freedom on a Personal Level

Brand Launch, 360 Campaign, Video Production, Print Design, Digital Design

In 2018, Goldman Sachs started Marcus, an online bank geared towards a wider customer base and with offerings like high-interest savings accounts and personal loans. NSG/SWAT won the business of launching the brand, and I was brought on to help define and guide what would become its creative style.

There was a massive amount of content that needed to be made immediately, and very little established as far as look or feel. Over 10 months we created 17 infographics, 44 social assets, 58 stipple illustrations and 61 videos. At first I designed most assets myself, but I quickly moved into a supervisory role, working with outsourced illustrators, animators and production teams on various parallel-pathed projects, ensuring the look and feel was consistent across all mediums. I was also part of the agency team expected to travel to Goldman Sachs headquarters for all meetings and presentations, and to present and defend work to the client.

Video Production

From the beginning, a goal of the client was to portray Marcus as a one-stop shop for all your financial needs, and that included providing answers for any frequently asked financial questions. The client wanted Marcus to become a database of sorts, almost in the vein of Nerd Wallet or Investopedia. So while there were articles were being written surrounding the FAQs the client expected to receive, a large video database was also expected to be created in parallel.

Outside intermittent check-ins with our ECD, my copywriting partner and I were tasked with this responsibility. Every pre-production meeting, talent audition, wardrobe decision, lighting test, shooting day (including on location in Dallas, TX), all the time spent at the editing studio or with animators and color correction artists; all of the work needed to produce 3 long-form videos and 61 short-form FAQ videos was done by us. It took months upon months to complete, but the output is something both our agency and the client were all very proud of in the end, and it was a phenomenal learning experience for me personally.
